I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
I successfully nominated Ronald Lee for an Honorary LLD at Queen’s University, for fall convocation in 2013. Prof. Julianna Beaudoin was my co-signatory.
As the chair of the grant-writing committee for Toronto’s Roma Community Centre, I wrote a successful grant application to the Ontario Ministry of Child and Youth Services for Toronto’s first full time, permanent Romani youth outreach worker, 2012.
Other successful grant applications were to Toronto Arts Council and Government of Canada’s Inter-Action: Multiculturalism Funding Program for April 8 International Roma Day in 2015. I acted as consultant to my son, Adam Rasky, for his successful Toronto Arts Council grant for an April 8 event in 2017. In 2012 and 2013, my grant-writing efforts for the Roma Community Centre led to funding from the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network/Woodgreen Community Services for a preventative health program for Romani seniors. Anisha Ashwin helped me with a grant application to the Law Foundation of Ontario for a pilot legal clinic at the Roma Community Centre in 2012.
At the Roma Community Centre, from May 2011 – August 2013, I worked as a volunteer settlement worker and part-time assistant to Gina Csanyi, the former Executive Director, and in September 2015, as a volunteer research assistant to Dafina Savic, the Executive Director of Romanipe, Montreal.
I provide advocacy and support for several refugee claimants and their families. This has involved my attendance at their Immigration and Refugee Board hearings, Federal Court hearings, letters of support supplementing their refugee claims and Permanent Resident status applications, research in support of their applications, and petitions.
With Sabreena Ghaffar-Siddiqui, I am co-leader of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, Toronto Circle, Canada’s first chapter of the Sisterhood (sosspeace.org), founded by Sheryl Olitzky in 2007.
